PALMPON is a special organic-mineral plant substrate for palm trees and other Mediterranean plants that require an airy, well-drained root environment. The unique blend of Pumice, Black Lava, Zeolite, Pine bark, and a slow-release fertilizer creates a stable, tropical-like root environment that closely mimics the natural growing conditions of many palm species and Mediterranean plants, such as olive trees. The mineral components ensure excellent root aeration and reliable drainage, preventing waterlogging.
A distinctive feature of PALMPON is its Black Lava, which stores heat and helps maintain a consistently warm root environment. This supports root activity and promotes vigorous, healthy growth. At the same time, the dark lava gives the substrate an elegant, natural tropical appearance. Organic components such as Pine bark contribute to a loose substrate structure and balanced moisture management. The peat-free composition remains structurally stable over time, does not compact, and provides excellent support for plants of all sizes—especially tall-growing palms in large containers.
Since PALMPON is pre-fertilized for about 6 months, palms receive essential nutrients immediately after planting. The specially added potassium and iron support healthy leaf development as well as the formation of strong trunks and fronds.
PALMPON is suitable for indoor spaces, conservatories, patios, and balconies and is ideal for all common palm species. The substrate can be used in both conventional flower pots and LECHUZA planters with an irrigation system.
Note: For even better capillary action in LECHUZA planters, we recommend using LECHUZA-PON or BASICPON as the irrigation layer.

After about half a year, the fertilizer’s effect in the substrate begins to wear off, and it’s time to fertilize the plants again. With PERFECT PALM slow-release and liquid fertilizers, palm trees and Mediterranean plants are once again supplied with sufficient nutrients, supporting healthy growth.
To keep track of your plant’s water needs even in conventional flower pots, you can use the PON watering indicator. It reliably indicates when your plant needs to be watered in the mineral-based substrate.

Planting instructions
Step 1:
Add the LECHUZA-PON plant substrate (included with the pots) as a drainage layer on the separating base in the pot. This is important so the water can be transported from the reservoir to the plant.
Then pour a thin layer of the desired substrate into the container. Just enough to give your plant the right height in the container.
Step 2:
Place the plant in your planter. The roots do not need to be completely removed from the soil.
Step 3:
Fill the container completely with the substrate of your choice, e.g. using the PON shovel.
Step 4:
For the first 12 weeks, water your plant as usual from above, directly onto the substrate. Only water as much as the plant can absorb. Make sure that there is as little water as possible in the reservoir.
After this watering phase, you can water your plant via the water shaft. For pots without a LECHUZA watering system, the plant continues to be watered from above. You can find more information here: https://www.lechuza.world/how-to-plant-lechuza/sp-planting.html
