The organic-mineral specialty growing medium CACTUSPON is ideal for all cacti and succulents that require a particularly dry, airy, and well-drained root environment. The fine-grained composition of Pumice, Lava, Zeolite, and humus granules creates ideal conditions for species from arid regions and supports their natural adaptation to dry locations. Thanks to its high drainage capacity, excess water can drain away quickly, preventing waterlogging and root rot. The mineral composition ensures excellent root aeration, allowing plants to grow sturdily. CACTUSPON is peat-free, highly volume stable, and does not compact even over long periods of time. The substrate offers excellent support and stability, which is particularly crucial for tall columnar cacti or solitary succulent plants. Additionally, CACTUSPON does not provide a breeding ground for gnats, fungi, or mold. The humus granules it contains improve soil fertility, allowing both large species such as Trichocereus and smaller, prolific-flowering species such as Echinopsis or Mammillaria to be cultivated successfully.

Since CACTUSPON is not pre-fertilized, the nutrient supply can be tailored individually to each species—ideal for sensitive plants that react poorly to over-fertilization.

CACTUSPON is ideal for all cactus and succulent species. It can be used in all types of flowerpots and planters, as well as in LECHUZA planters with irrigation systems.

Recommended Accessories

To ensure a tailored nutrient supply, CACTUSPON is unfertilized. The PERFECT CACTUS liquid fertilizer provides cacti and succulents with sufficient nutrients.

To keep track of your plant’s water needs even in conventional flower pots, you can use the PON watering indicator. It reliably indicates when your plant needs to be watered in the mineral substrate.

Planting in LECHUZA planters

le_umtopfen_indoor_content_01

Step 1:

Place the irrigation layer—included with LECHUZA planters—on the divider in the planter. This is important to ensure that water is transported from the reservoir to the plant and to prevent waterlogging.
Then fill the planter with a thin layer of your chosen substrate, such as BASICPON—just enough so that your plant sits at the correct height in the planter.

Step 2:

Place the plant in your planter as usual. You don’t need to completely remove the soil from the roots.

Step 3:

Now you can fill the planter completely with the substrate of your choice, for example, using the PON funnel.

Step 4:

For the first 12 weeks, water your plant as usual from above, directly onto the substrate. Water only as much as the plant can absorb.
Make sure there is as little water as possible in the reservoir.
After this initial watering phase, you can water your plant through the water shaft. For planters without the LECHUZA irrigation system, continue to water the plant from above. You can find more information here.
