The organic-mineral plant substrate VEGGIEPON provides the ideal foundation for successfully growing vegetables, herbs, and snack fruits. With its special blend of Lava, Pumice, Coconut pulp, Biochar, and vegan fertilizer, VEGGIEPON creates a loose, well-aerated root environment that protects delicate roots and promotes healthy growth. The mineral components store water even on hot days and provide plants with sufficient moisture. At the same time, they allow excess moisture to drain away safely, preventing waterlogging and root rot. The clod-free substrate remains structurally stable over time, does not compact, and ensures an airy root environment. As a result, vegetable and fruit plants develop a strong root system and produce aromatic fruits with high yields.

Since VEGGIEPON is enriched with a vegan fertilizer, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, berries, and herbs receive an optimal supply of nutrients for the first 6 months. The composition of VEGGIEPON is 100% vegan and free of animal-derived ingredients. The Biochar it contains improves soil fertility, binds nutrients over the long term, and increases water-holding capacity.

VEGGIEPON is suitable for all standard planters, raised beds, balcony boxes, and LECHUZA planters with irrigation systems on balconies, patios, or in small urban gardens.

Note: Suitable for use with edible plants. For even better capillary action in LECHUZA planters, we recommend using LECHUZA-PON or BASICPON as the irrigation layer.

Recommended Accessories

After about half a year, the fertilizer’s effect in the substrate begins to wear off, and it’s time to fertilize the plants again. With PERFECT VEGGIE slow-release and liquid fertilizers, vegetables and fruits are once again supplied with sufficient nutrients, ensuring nothing stands in the way of a bountiful harvest.

To keep track of your plant’s water needs even in conventional flower pots, you can use the PON watering indicator. It reliably shows when your plant needs to be watered in the mineral-based substrate.

Planting in LECHUZA planters

Step 1:

Place the irrigation layer—included with LECHUZA planters—on top of the divider in the planter. This is important to ensure that water is transported from the reservoir to the plant and to prevent waterlogging.
Then fill the planter with a thin layer of your chosen substrate, such as TERRAPON. Use just enough so that your plant sits at the correct height in the planter.

Step 2:

Place the plant in your planter as usual. You don’t need to completely remove the soil from the roots.

Step 3:

Now you can fill the planter completely with the substrate of your choice, for example, using the PON funnel.

Step 4:

For the first 12 weeks, water your plant as usual from above, directly onto the substrate. Water only as much as the plant can absorb.
Make sure there is as little water as possible in the reservoir.

After this initial watering phase, you can water your plant through the water shaft. For planters without the LECHUZA irrigation system, continue to water the plant from above. You can find more information here.

FAQ
In which planters can I use PON?
All PON substrates can be used in both planters with irrigation systems and in conventional flowerpots or window boxes.
When should I water PON?
Since PON’s mineral substrates retain water very well, the plant needs to be watered less frequently. Water needs can be determined either by the finger test, the PON watering indicator, or the water level indicator on LECHUZA planters.
Can I mix PON with soil?
Yes, PON can be mixed with potting soil. We recommend the purely mineral plant substrates BASICPON and MONOPON. Neither of these substrates is pre-fertilized; they loosen up the soil mix and improve drainage.
When should I fertilize VEGGIEPON?
The VEGGIEPON plant substrate is pre-fertilized for approximately 6 months. After that, nutrients can be replenished using PON’s liquid or Slow-release fertilizers. For vegetables, herbs, and snack fruits, we recommend the vegan fertilizer PERFECT VEGGIE.
Are PON plant substrates peat-free?
All PON plant substrates are peat-free.
